The Plague Church
The Ancient Church of Holcombe
Situated just a short walk across the fields from the Holcombe Inn is the Old Church of St Andrews - known locally as the Plague Church
It was once surrounded by the village but in 1348 the Black Death struck and the remaining Villagers abandoned their homes and resettled higher up the hill
The nursery rhyme, Ring a Ring o' Roses originates from Holcombe and some years ago was previously the name of the Holcombe Inn
We are keyholders of the Church so please drop by if you wish to visit
The Church was recently used for for filming the BBC Series Poldark
